Sewing Day

Sewing Day will also be held at the Hilton Garden Hotel, 1061 York Street, Gettysburg, PA on April 1 beginning at 9 a.m.  You are welcome to work on any project you would like.  The "official projects" are going to be a Swiss Waist and Cotton Net undersleeves similar to the pictures below

Our Swiss Waist will be similar to the pictures below although you can customize by adding ruching (like the black waist that is on sale on ebay) (included in the kit, if you choose to purchase), deleting the “tails” or changing the shape.  If you are a beginner or intermediate seamstress, I suggest you make the garment without the tails. The purchase list is:

1 yard silk taffeta

1 yard cotton lining

Matching thread

2 yards coordinating velvet ribbon (if you are making the tail version)

7 bones – this is going to be the difficult part as you won’t know how long the bones need to be until you make the garment.  I am working on a sample and will provide the bone lengths when it is complete.  If, however, you are very tall, you may wish to make the garment wider.  I plan to have a variety of bones available for purchase so that you can complete this project.  The black waist below has 10 bones - obviously, the more you have, the more stable the garment.

12 yards 1 inch grosgrain ribbon if you want to ruche the top and bottom, 6 yards if you only want to do the top.  If you are a larger woman, add a few more yards.

4 yards lacing

If you choose to purchase a kit from me, it will include all the components listed above in black.  The cost will be $25.

Undersleeves

These are beautiful cotton net undersleeves that would complement any gown.  Below are photos of the original and the one I am working on as a template (lavender silk).  Because of the cost of good lace and the cotton net, I am not offering a kit.  However, all materials may be purchased from Needle and Thread.

Supply List:

1 ½ yards cotton net

1 yard silk taffeta

2 yards cotton or silk lace 2 ½ inches in width
