Sewing Day

Swiss Waist

Our Swiss Waist will be similar to the pictures below although you can customize by adding ruching (included in the kit, if you choose to purchase), deleting the “tails” or changing the shape.  If you are a beginner or intermediate seamstress, I suggest you make the garment without the tails.  You can bring your own sewing machine but I will have machines and an ironing board available for your use.

The purchase list is:

1 yard silk taffeta

1 yard cotton lining

Matching thread

2 yards coordinating velvet ribbon (if you are making the tail version)

7 bones – this is going to be the difficult part as you won’t know how long the bones need to be until you make the garment.  I am working on a sample and will provide the bone lengths when it is complete.  If, however, you are very tall, you may wish to make the garment wider.  I plan to have a variety of bones available for purchase so that you can complete this project.

12 yards 1 inch grosgrain ribbon if you want to ruche the top and bottom, 6 yards if you only want to do the top.  If you are a larger woman, add a few more yards.

4 yards lacing

If you choose to purchase a kit from me, it will include all the components listed above in black.  The cost will be $25.
